kliu. demo available! Devlog #3

Posted 11/6/2024

hello! you may have remembered me promising that i'd put the demo for that detective game im making up on itchio by the end of the month of october, and im only 6 days overdue which isn't too bad! october ended up being so busy i was working my day job for 8 hours and then working another 8ish hours (likely more) every day trying to finish other projects and sewing things. i'm happy to announce that i'm all done with ALL of those things, this is the last "october obligation" i'm fulfilling. i'm fucking free. i want to do more drawing. i haven't even had the TIME to draw anything over the past month.

anyway, we're here to talk about the game im making.

the game is currently called "kliu." which if you say it out loud, you might understand why i called it that lol.

the demo is currently available on my itchio, and it can be completed in about 20ish minutes, there's not a whole lot to it at the moment.

there are some bugs that i won't be fixing in this version since once i get the time to, i'll probably be redoing this first "case" to introduce more mechanics and more of the story elements i want to carry through the whole game. the demo does allude to a case that will be included in the final game though, so none of this content is like. being thrown out the window lol.

here are some screenshots from it, the demo takes place mostly in this one room so there's not a whole lot of "cool" things i can show about it at this stage.

the decker influence is probably apparent, everything is rendered in a black and white monochrome, i was fooling around with trying to make this game in decker for a little bit but i realized i couldn't learn how to use decker and make the demo in a reasonable amount of time.

my future plans are maybe switching this to AGS or godot if i manage to get around to learning how to use either of those game engines since this game being made in rpgmaker is what im most comfortable with, it becomes really limiting in a lot of other ways. well. we'll have to see how things shake out.

as i've said, i made this for a grant application and i won't know the results until mid december. if i don't get the grant then the game will still be made, but just a lot slower. this will be a fun project i think and im excited to work on this further.
